I'm looking for a book

Hi everyone. Please I'm looking for a book. I remember the storyline but not the author. The story happened in a countryside setting. The main female lead was a girl who used glasses and wasn't so attractive as a kid. Then the church organized some sort of picnic or something for the teens and no one wanted to go with her. But there was another pretty and popular girl who everyone wanted to go with. Then the pastor's son and another boy agreed to draw straws to decide who would go with the ugly girl and who would go with the pretty one. The pastor's son pulled the shorter straw and ended up having to go with the ugly girl. During the picnic, he enjoyed her company and conversation but somehow, the popular girl called her a short straw and it got exposed that he had only asked her because he had pulled the short straw. She left humiliated and his parents scolded him and told him to go apologize to her, he went the next day but her parents had already sent her to go live with an aunt. Years later, she returns home, still with her glasses, but more attractive and curvy. She goes to work for the pastor's family and starts getting close to the son who pulled the short straw all those years ago, and is currently still in a relationship with that mean girl. He starts falling for her. And while I can't remember everything exactly, I do remember vaguely something about a horse accident and eventually the mean girl telling the pastor's son to go be with the main female lead (who's name I believe was shortened to Bobbie or something) as she's the right one for him.

I'm sure it's an old book because I read it years back but I really want to find it and read it again and I've searched for years and still haven't gotten it.

>1 Grace-Cherith: That's from the California Series by Lori Wick. This is called As Time Goes By
Even though it's technically a series of 4 books, each book can pretty much stand alone.
