I just added this review on LT for the book Family Outing by Tony Johnson.

This coming of age memoir of a straight man growing up in a gay household makes for very funny yet poignant reading. I can relate because my own kid doesn't want to be "outed" just because I'm out. As a parent it gave me insight into how my son feels. Tony Johnson grew up in southern California in the 1990's when he didn't think it was cool to have a lesbian mother. He kept her in her closet for many years. He was 10 when his mother's girlfriend outed her and he tried to keep the fact hidden until he finished college. His mom went along with it, even disguising herself at her daughter's wedding. This book is highly recommended for anyone who is a gay parent or anyone who has a gay parent. Johnson learned a lot and he has a lot to teach all of us. It scares me to death to think my own kid might be doing some of the stuff that Johnson does as a high schooler. Way too much sex, drugs and alcohol for any one kid. Do you know where your kids are right now? Get this book! You'll like it and hopefully your kid will too.
