missing my puppy

Went on a 4 day vacation where I couldn't take my girl. Left her with family and i'm picking her up tonight but i miss her so much. My husband was gone for a week+. He can't wait until he sees her again.

Isn't it funny how much you can miss them when you're away?

I understand completely. We went on a 10 day cruise and actually argued over whether or not we should call home and talk on the answering machine to Bones. We decided it was cruel to talk to him when he couldn't see us. We talked about him every day.

I haven't taken any long trips but I had to spend the night in the hospital a few months ago, and Toto stayed at my friend Donna's house. I called her about three times that night to check on him, and to find out if he was ok. The next day when I came home I realized she had spoiled him beyond recognition - LOL - Up until then he would sleep at the foot of my bed on his pillow now and then, but usually on the floor in his doggie bed, but an interesting thing happened the night I got home. He slept the whole night through up on the bed, but up towards the head of the bed not at the foot (I'm single and sleep on the left side of the bed - not the center) I don't kow if it was because he could tell I was ill and somehow wanted to give me comfort, or if he just wanted to be nearer to me since he spent his first night away from home. He's back to the foot of the bed now, except for every now and then I wake up and there he is, at the head of the bed where a husband should be LOL...I may have to take a trip in September for a week and I just dread the thought of being away from him....

she went on a trip without me once. That was worse because I was home alone (she went camping with my husband and in-laws) and so i kept expecting her to be there when i'd get home and she wasn't...drove me crazy!

Now she is hanging out with Aunt Bib!

I had a great vacation earlier this month where I spent 5 days and 6 nights in New York. Every day I thought of my scottie, Gregor, but I knew he had a great place to stay. That can make all the difference.

It really helps when there is a great place to stay. My pups go to a home where they get to sit in the chairs and on laps for TV watching and get to sleep in/on the bed at night. I never thought I would find someone who would let my dogs sleep with them on/in the bed.

Greta always sleeps up close to my head, almost as if she wants a pillow for her head next to my head. If she is not there, by my left side, she is off in her bed on the floor in another room. Nicky however sleeps at the foot of the bed and sometimes comes crawling under the covers on the right side when its cold. But he spends the entire night on/in the bed. No letting me sleep alone.

They are great company, awake or asleep.

I am going to Portsmouth for one week WITHOUT Scottie. She will be staying with my parents and getting spoilt, I will be staying with Andrew's parents and missing my dog. I know she will be well looked after but I will miss her so much. It's the longest I will have been apart from her and I am not looking forward to it.

awwwe poor Jody and Scottie. It's hard to be separated. but the reunion will be great!

God help me - the very subject I'm trying not to think about. We go on holiday in just over a week and my (grown-up) son takes 2 weeks off work and moves in with Skeelo. I'm sure they have a wonderful time and don't miss us a bit. I spend the whole fortnight grieving. I do have a wonderful holiday too - don't get me wrong - but I also have to hug every dog I see while I'm there (thank goodness Greece isn't one of those countries that has a huge problem with rabies or I'd be dead by now).

This will sound VERY strange, but I'm kind of glad I don't have the money to leave home for a vacation. Since two of my three canine owners sleep with me, I don't think I'd be able to sleep well without Pearl the pug's snoring (it's way better than a white noise machine) or Tucker gazing soulfully up at me while sprawled in my lap. I have to spend so much time away from them during the school year (b/c I work almost an hour away, and leave for work very, very early in the a.m. and come home late in the afternoon absolutely whacked) that I treasure the too brief days of summer vacation when I can luxuriate in books and dogs.

#10 I know just how you feel. Having the choice removed wouldn't bother me too much.

10: That is why I decided not to go anywhere during my spring break. I did take a trip right when school got out, but I had to keep reassuring myself that I would have almost four weeks with my dog before summer school started. It has been great hanging out.
