Hello all, not sure if people know this, but The Strand on Fulton St is closing on Aug 15th (their last day)---lots of books for sale, $ hardcovers, half-price books, lots of stuff...be prepared to be overwhelmed by all of the books....

Gah! Thanks for the tip.

I did hear about this (sadly, it was one of the highlights of going down to the Seaport), but maybe I should check out this sale you speak of.

Oh my. This economy is really affecting everyone. I could be wrong but isn't The Strand on Fulton much newer than the one on 13th and fourth?
Anyway thanks for the info Mamachunk, I will try and pop in there before it closes and see what books I can lay my hands on. By the way I am going to go check out what you've been reading on the 75 thread.

Yes, the original is the one on 13th & 4th.

If that one ever closed I think I'd go mad. It's THE book lover's destination in Manhattan.

The (original) Strand is located on Broadway and 12th Street. The address is 828 Broadway.

I've never been to the annex, myself. I do all my shopping at the main store because it's only a few blocks from my apartment, and through their site I can always order books from the annex location to be picked up here. I was admittedly a little concerned, though, when I saw their sign saying the annex would be closing. I hope they're doing alright. They are my primary source for books.
I guess I better order some more books now. You know... to support them; not because I have no self-restraint.

Sorry, I read it too quickly and just thought 12th St. was 13th St.! Shame on me, a native NYer, and former downtown resident!

I really liked the annex! It was much more quiet than the main bookstore, and still full of books!
I will try to take a trip there this weekend and see if I can find some of the books I am looking for.
Very sad news, though.......

It's possible that this is purely coincidence, but about half of my ridiculously long list of saved items on strandbooks.com are now out of stock, which seems to suggest that the sale is doing pretty well. Normally, only one or two (if any) of my saved items is gone between visits to the site.
