Well, mjbinfo and I are coauthors of a book, For Information Specialists, on information in the library & information science sense. She's written recently on more abstract understandings of the word. I think the basic position of cognitive information science is correct: information is that which changes that which you know. But I'm mainly interested in how this comes about through reading—i.e., one's interaction with literatures—than at higher levels of abstraction. I do like Sperber & Wilson's Relevance Theory as the backdrop against which reading takes place. Deirdre Wilson and Dan Sperber think like scientists; they're interested in explanation. I this mjbinfo and I share this orientation.
