How much is manga at your bookstore?

I am curious because I travel a lot and I buy manga/graphic novels/art books in 3 different languages and different countries.

Canadian prices tend to range from CDN $9.99 - 25.99, depending on the publisher.

HK prices ranges from HKD $45.00 - 160.00.

TW(cheapest) prices go from NTD $60.00 - 150.00

CN is not applicable.

Of course, this discounts any special editions/prints, etc.

... $25.99?! I've never seen a manga costing that much! All the ones in my bookstores are between $9.99 and $12.99. o.O

For manga I've seen some of the Shoujo Beat ones for $7.99 new at Borders. The most expensive ones I've seen are probably published by Blu and run about $15.99.

Art books always tend to be much more expensive, around $25.00 or more.

I never seen a manga cost $25.99 (I live in Canada). Unless, you are buying deluxe, or hard cover versions of a manga. Normally, I get my mangas at american pricing. =)

lol, it must be because I am a bit older, mangas in Canada were around CDN$25.99. The market weren't as big then, and it wasn't popular enough to do big print runs. A lot of times, the price came about because it was imported from the US(where I used to buy from, but I have since moved to Vancouver).

I have paid 50 Euros for a excellent art book from the best artists in Paris. I was shocked that I can find original Japanese prints in Paris.

It's cheaper in Asia, HK prints are about CDN 6.00 to start, and TW prints are CDN 2.00 to start.

Such expensive books. :( I buy raw manga, so it tends to be cheaper. I wouldn't own or take as many risks if I had to pay that much. I have a lot of used books, which run $1-3 (or $5-7 for bigger sizes) from places like Book-off and online used bookstores. New, I tend to pay ~$6 either in-store or online+shipping.

Retail price for most manga in the US ranges from $7.95 to $10.95. That's for titles from the bigger publishers - Viz, Tokyopop, Del Rey. Vertical manga is more expensive - $19.95 or $24.95, usually.

I live in America and I know that Books-a-Million does this mark down once or month (or they use to) and each month it would be 10% off Manga by a specific company. So, one month would be Viz the next Tokyo Pop. They didn't do any of the more "obscure" publishers. So, I've seen Manga in stores from about $6-$15.99 and the the only reason it's that high is because DMP's manga is so expensive. I've never really looked at art books though.

You can get manga just about anywhere now. Retail stores (US) have them for $7.99-15.99. You can also find them on sale there. You can get good deals at used bookstores and on eBay. Most libraries have them to rent.

Half-Price is best with $5-6 manga and then there's Barnes n Noble with $10-12

In the UK it tends to be around £6 (Viz) or £7 (Tokyopop), so around US $10-$12

For those of you with no direct access to a good Manga bookstore, I can recommend http://www.bookdepository.co.uk
They ship manga at no cost with a better discount then Amazon. Their helpdesk is also quite good.

Very strange: each book is shipped separately

Today at the bookstore, They were selling Tokyopop manga for 13.99 CAD. I couldn't believe the price. Most Manga that cost 13.99 or more that I know of, is Yaoi and Viz Signature books....so I was a little disappointed at tokyopop.

Well they are art books, so I they would be more expensive to make. Plus the publishers must know how cool it is to own the art, so they make you pay for every bit! =)

I would assume that art books are more expensive also due to smaller print runs.

The manga would have actually been from Japan fifteen years ago. None of these would have been in ebook formats, only physical printings.
