A good mystery series I love by Rita Mae Brown is the Mrs. Murphy series. It takes place in a small town near the Blue Ridge mountains, has a lot of Virginia history in it. The first book in the series is Wish You Were Here.

Battle of Cedar Creek by Theodore Mahr
Hour Game by David Baldacci

I am sad that this is all that is mentioned in this thread.

I've read the alt history books in message 3. Not exactly what I was looking for in "Books about Virginia", but I guess they do include alternate history look at Virginia. An Alternate Virginia.

Wish I could find Virginia books that do not involve the Civil War, and/or are non-fiction works (found those, looking for something else). I might have to actually check out the Mrs. Murphy series. Didn't realize it is set in Virginia.

Mike, don't know if you are interested in this type of book or not, but Lisa Gardner has a suspense book that starts out in Quantico and progresses to Richmond if I remember correctly called The Killing Hour. Anyway it is set in Virginia.

Thank-you. I have put that book on hold at the library. I am mildly concerned, though, that it is described as a "romantic thriller" at my library's website. Romantic thriller's are not my type of book, but thrillers, and serial killer books fall within my normal reading zone (rarely serial killer books, but I do occasionally read them).

Patricia Cornwell was in the medical examiner's office in Virginia for several years, and wrote a few "Kay Scarpetta" novels that are set in Virginia, DC, or nearby states.

Gardner started out writing romance, then romantic suspense, but I think of her most recent as being just suspense since the romance is definitely secondary to the suspense in the last ones I read..

There's a couple great young adult books too, like Bridge to Terabithia and Meet Felicity. Here's a complete list of books and authors...
