An interesting choice. Again Coles Philips is an unfamiliar name.
I'll have think about my favourites, they all have something to offer and I'd hate to be without any of them.

I'm sure this is not a comprehensive listing of Golden Age illustrators but it does provide some quality links to the art...

I'll have to scan some images from A Young Man's Fancy for you guys - it's a fairly rare volume and the images are just exquisite. This particular book is entirely full of "fade away" girls...

Thanks Johnnyapallo.... I also have about 25 images of fade away girls on my Coles Philips fan group page in Facebook. Please send those scans when you have a chance!!

If you look at the links above you'll see some examples of Coles Philips work - he is well known for a line of illustrations he did where the background color is also used for a pretty girl's dress, so it "fades away" and the other bits stand out in stunning detail. It's a neat trick that I've used in some of my own illustrations. His Fade-away girls were all wholesome yet seductive so they became clean pin-ups.

there are a lot of nice images at the Camelot Project (http://www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/artmenu.htm) including several Golden age illustrators - check Jessie King and one of my favorites, William Russell Flint (wonderful watercolors!) There's Pogany here as well, and Rackham

Oh I like the Coles Philips stuff but never knew who did it. Thank you illustration fan!

It reminds me of some of the early vogue magazine illustration. Actually there is some cross over between book illustrators and Vogue say 1900-1940. I have a a book of those that are stunning.
