I love that LOA has created the American Poets pocket series and am glad to read the poets they have selected, but I am not thrilled with the book cover design nor the paper selected. The paper feels cheap. What does anyone else think?

I haven't seen any of these books (nor heard of them, for that matter). Are they on their website?

Yes, the site shows three series: the main LOA series, the American Poets series and the paperback college editions.

I didn't realize that the Poet series was a "pocket" size. Personally, I think most of the paper in the LOA books are thin; not necessarily cheap though.

You're probably right on the "pocket" description. It's smaller than a normal volume; larger than, say, the Everyman's Library pocket poets series.

I wanted some Gwendolyn Brooks on the centennial of her birth and remembered the LOA American Poets series. They arrived today (I couldn't resist a further sale) and I was very pleasantly surprised. Somehow I had thought they were paperbacks but in fact they are the standard issue LOA volume, just a bit slimmer. I'll be adding to my new collection.

I really like the Poets series - they are very well done and very stable little books. And the choice of authors and works had made me read poetry for the first time in ages.

>7 AnnieMod: Agreed! I would love for LOA to resume the series. Unfortunately, it may be an economic issue. I still browse brick and mortar book stores including the poetry sections, but I rarely see LOA's APP books on the shelves, though similar sized books from other publishers that were published years earlier are perennially available.
