I've been reading through the variouis APIs (JSON, web service) looking for the pieces to build an application for a cell phone.
What triggered this was standing in the bookstore wondering if I already had a copy of the book in my hand.
The solution would be my data capable cell phone. I'd enter the ISBN for the book, it would connect to LT, and tell me whether the book was in my collection. I don't see an API the lets me check or get ISBNs from my collection. Or go from ISBN to work number to my collection.
If I decided to buy it the next step would be to add it to LT.
Someone creating a new catalog, as I will be doing, would also find it easier to use the cell phone to enter books while at their book shelves than dragging stacks of books to the computer. Okay, that last is possible by setting up Twitter, but an API would be nicer.
Got a couple more thoughts along these lines once I get past this effort.
Did I miss an API?

There is a web site for mobile phones. I think it's m.librarything.com.

>2 jjwilson61: Actually, the mobile LT URL is this: www.librarything.com/m/
It only has basic functionality, the most useful is the ability to look up a title in your library to see if you have it - I've used it at book sales, the library and books stores many-a-time.

Thanks but that is insufficient. It only works for public members and there is no add capability.
Plus this is just the starting point for some other ideas I have for a mobile phone capability.

Apparently there is an iPhone app being developed. See http://www.librarything.com/topic/48183#1223522

5> There are phones other than the iPhone that could be used which I what I have.
Thanks for the pointer to that thread. It looks like LT may not want a 3rd party doing such work.

It's not that we don't really want 3rd parties doing it. It's that we don't have any APIs right now that give full write access to the data. I've been planning on creating some new APIs that do that but have been too busy. It's on my ever-growing list.
