Lake Peigneur (disappearing lake) History Channel footage
When I saw this I knew that I had to share it with all of you :)
Do you have anything that we just HAVE to see?

>1 mckait: mckait, I saw that footage when it originally aired on History Channel. It was one of the Engineering Disasters episodes of "Modern Marvels." (I always watch those ones.) It's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Thanks for the link to the footage!

For those of you who haven't seen the footage regarding The Tacoma Narrows Bridge before:

I've never had cable so am not familiar with the History Channel series, but I'm betting this "Engineering Disaster" might have led off the program!
This is regularly shown in Civil Engineering courses and dissected on "how not to build a bridge."

fugitive, I immediately thought of the Tacoma Narrows footage when I saw mckait's post, but I was too lazy to look it up on the web. Thanks for posting the link!

All three, wonderful videos. I'm amazed about the Lake Peigneur footage - hadn't heard about it. I knew about the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsing but don't think I ever saw that video.
I love the last one.
Thanks, guys!

The Palio di Siena (in wikipedia see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palio_di_Siena ) is one of the oldest horse races in existence.
Warning. If you are an avid animal/horse lover, you might want to pass on this (but no animals die or are seriously injured in this specific video, not even human animals).
The horse can win even if a rider is not aboard.

Is that the same couple that had the wedding video?
I don't remember my divorce proceedings being quite that interesting....
At least, not until later that night at the bar with my friends.

I received this one as an e-mail a few years ago. I was glad to find it on YouTube to share his. The picture quality isn't great, but it's the words that carry the message. It seems oh, so appropriate, for this group:

Great story #1, all for the best if it makes fishing better! A couple of the vids got deleted I see. I remember reading a story about the horse race when I was very young - first person account of a kid entering the race I believe.

Thanks for that link. I sent it to my teens who are working on their plotlines for NaNoWriMo. It'll give them something to think about.

(16) I remember reading a book about this race as well, called Gaudenzia Pride of the Palio by Marguerite Henry.
Nice group. Glad to be here. :)
