Has there been any attempt to match up Myers Briggs categories with the Enneagram types? There'sd obviously have to be some overlap as there are 16 MB types and only 9 Enneagram categories. As an INFJ I read somewhere that there is a rough correspondence with Enneagram 4. Anyone have any ideas about this?

There are people who have tried to link up the two systems. Mathematically, it is quite difficult to compare a 16 and 9 based system.

I think of MBTI as being in duple meter, and Enneagram in triple meter, using musical metaphors. Some people believe that all music meter can be divided into these two, although I am not sure.

We look at pairs of opposite attributes in MBTI, but not in the Enneagram, where each number has two wings, and two arrows, and these don't really oppose, but flow one way of the other.

In addition, each Enneagram number can have three instinctual subtypes.

I had tested out as an ENTP before I found out what my Enneagram numbe is. I looked on-line and found a site which showed that ENTP's tended to be 7's. But when I went to my first Enneagram retreat, it was fairly obvious that I was a 5 (observer). Looking back at my MBTI numbers, I can see that I am only slightly an E (vs. being an I).

There is also some cultural conditioning: I discovered my MBTI while living in the midwest, where whatever E I have seems stronger; but now I live in the New York City area, which functions more extroverted, and can see more of my introversion (and I did discover my Enneagram number here on Long Island).

It might be interesting doing a small sample here.

I am INTJ and a 5 type (which seems to fit in most comparisons between the two systems).

I am an ENFP and a 9 type (although some insist I better fit 7).

Have you looked at your wings, or you instinctual subtype on the Enneagram side? I tend to be an Enneagram 5w4, but I'm not sure whether I have a social or a sexual subtype.

As for my ENTP, my E is mild, and my P is very strong. Now that I live in the Greater New York area, I sometimes look like I am functioning as an introvert,
