Has Battlestar Galactica turned into a soap opera or a telenovela? If so, is this good or bad?
To avoid misunderstanding, let me say I agree with Ron Moore that technobabble is boring and should be minimized. I like where he is goind with the series.

Well, I know this is a rather late response to the question, but here's my two cents.
I think that the showrunners made a number of weird (bad?) decisions in the third season and that one of them was to let the Starbuck-Anders-Apollo-Dee thing get started in the first place. The second was to let it become such a huge part of the plot. I know that Starbuck and Apollo are major characters and I know that their relationship has some important role in the overall story, but I would have preferred not to go down that route. It detracted from other possible stories and made the show seem soapy. I hope we never see any of that again.

That having been said, I think that one of the greatest strengths of the first two seasons was the emphasis on relationships - not necessarily weird love quadrangles, but on human relationships of all types. This, combined with Moore's belief that show developments (usually) produce lasting consequences (i.e., no "reset button"), made for a number of really intriguing dynamics on the show. So in that respect, no I don't think that the show was soapy. I think it made the characters seem more "human" and less "scifi futureworld" or whatever.
