Inclusive books

Anyone else not an Exclusive Books fan like me? Shall we start an inclusive books south africa group?

Chris, I'm not South African so forgive my ignorance, but what do the expressions 'Exclusive Books' and 'Inclusive Books' mean?

Not sure how you got to A South African Group, but, Exclusive Books is the name of a Book Shop chain. I think Chris does not really like them and prefers independent sellers.

Ah... I get it! Thanks bergs47. I occasionally drop in to have a look at South African groups because I am on the look-out for interesting novels set in Africa.

Right. Their prices are exclusive.

I'm not a fan myself - prefer to buy through 'loot' online, or kalahari.net. For browsing any of the Booksdealers Of... stores don't know if you have them in CT but when I lived there the city was awash with second hand bookshops or Incredible Books/Fascination.

Not much of an exclusive fan myself. I love Kalahari.net however. I have been buying books from them since 2001 (roughly an order per month), and never a single problem.

Exclusives has has great deals at their sales though - I scored loads of gorgeous hardcovers for about R40 each at the last two sales.

I just discovered www.bookdepository.com though, I think that's going to become my new favourite bookstore.

I agree about the sales books: some stunning hard-covers now grace my shelves. But why Bookdepository ( makes me think of books as depositories!) ? Is it cheaper than Loot, Take 2 or Kalahari who deal in rands?

I haven't used it yet, but I've been hearing from several people that it works out cheaper that the SA sites because delivery is free worldwide. Admittedly, I haven't compared prices myself, but Book Depository is at least cheaper than EB.

Ok, so now I have bought some books from Book Depository and got very good service. The books arrived within about 7 working days, and then I just had to wait another day or so to get a notice from the post office to pick my package up.

I've compared books on my wishlist with Take2, and Book Depository definitely works out cheaper, not only because delivery is free, but also ito price, especially since the rand is strong at the moment. I generally don't buy the current bestsellers though, so I'm not sure if Take2 would work out cheaper for those. I also buy a few academic books, and for those Book Depository definitely has better prices.

Just a word of warning though: there are two versions of the Book Depository site. One is .com, the other is .co.uk. They look the same, but are different ito of marketing (bestseller, editor's pick lists). More importantly, they have slightly different prices (don't ask me why) and sometimes certain editions won't be available on one of the sites while it's available on the other. In general, .com is a bit cheaper, but it varies so it helps to compare them. Your log in details will be the same for both sites, but you will have different wishlists on each site.
