"Americans elected Democrats because they wanted universal single payer health care, free education and a sensible approach to the fundamentalist Islamic threat."

Well, no. Americans elected Democrats because they were sick of George Dubya Bush and wanted something different. The Dems have not delivered. Even snuck the renewal of the Patriot Act into a Medicare bill (with previous restrictions on state power being stripped out). Don't pretend the enemy is on the other side. That just makes you the same as the neocons. Don't let the Democrats bribe you with the promise of bread and services.

As for the "freedom requires equality" comment, be careful that you not take it to mean that equality trumps freedom. That would be a conflation of means and ends.

Americans elected Democrats because they wanted universal single payer health care

I don't think this can be supported by evidence.

I mean, you can ignore Lunar's points and stipulate that Americans voted for Obama and congressional Democrats based exclusively on their stated policy positions and goals—and not as a reaction to the Republicans or for non-ideological reasons, like competence, and you still wouldn't be there. Obama didn't run, and most Democrats didn't run, on anything like single-payer health care.

One war we will never win is the War on Stupidity. In my city, out of every three students beginning elementary school, only one will graduate from high-school. Of those who do graduate and must be accepted into state colleges, nine out of ten must spend at least one semester reviewing the subjects they passed in high-school but are unable to practice effectively. Even among those who graduate and obtain employment, where the employers require only that they show up on time on Monday morning sober and ready to work, be able to read simple instructions and get along with the other employees, the employers are having difficulty finding new hires who can do all three things consistently, at the same time. Is there life after Drugs? I will not bore you by mentioning the relevant Minority group, because I know that you are Enlightened and thoroughly dogmatised and unable to accept the true facts, much less the causes of this dysfunction.
