Does anyone have any tips on how to catalog Group (http://www.group.com/) resources? Specifically, I'm looking for the Dewey numbers. WorldCat has been somewhat helpful but does take a lot of time and it is hit or miss as to which titles are found.

Any tips would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

My experience has been that if Library of Congress hasn't assigned a Dewey number, it's probably not worth your time to try locating a Dewey # elsewhere. The seminary libraries may have these materials, but when they do original cataloging they'll typically only assign an LC classification.

Foothills Presbytery Resource Center and Mauldin United Methodist Church Library--both in SC--each have a few titles (10-30). Unfortunately, I did not notice overlap between their titles and the ones in your collection which still don't have Deweys assigned.

I also checked a few other libraries that I thought might have larger collections of Group titles plus Dewey classification but struck out.

Thank you greenvillian! I guess I'll settle into doing some original cataloging...this sounds like it will be quicker than finding the Dewey numbers elsewhere since they seem non-existent. I appreciate your time and response.

Do you have an abridged Dewey and a religion schedule, even if not the newest versions of each? If you are using WorldCat or OCLC, there are many times that a Dewey library won't put the classification even if they use it. The other trick is to use a conversion table from LC to Dewey - there is a 3 vol set that includes coversion tables each way and an LC to LCSH subjecy headings. Very useful.
