One of my hobbies is creating music, or something as close to music as I can manage, using algorithms. Here is my latest creation:

Harmonic Experience is a good book for tying mathematics to music, at least from the perspective that I take.

I should also reference The CSound Book - that's how I turn numbers into... well, a wave file, anyway - a big step toward sound!

add some noise to the algorithm. Clean tones are ALWAYS OBVIOUSLY FAKE. Adding an appropriate nonstationary, low amplitude, and definitely non-gaussian fluctuation to your tones will give your sounds warmth and a sense of reality.
