Nonfiction: Shine Coconut Moon by Neesha Meminger

The story of Samar "Sam" a girl of Punjab Indian heritage, set right after September 11th. Sam's mother is alienated from her strict Sikh family and has not told Sam anything of her past or her Indian heritage. When her Uncle Sandeep shows up at their door, he makes Sam curious about what she has missed in the shadow of increased racism as a result of 9/11.

This book is very well told and has a universal theme about the importance of family. I would recommend this for older teens 14+. This is very much a chick book.
