Descrição:
The Humanist Reference Library strives to be the national research library for Humanism and closely related subjects. It is the UK’s largest and most comprehensive humanist research library with a collection that includes books, periodicals and pamphlets. It is a reference library accessible to the general public. The catalogue is in the process of being computerized and we hope to be able to put it online by 2011.

The collection is housed in the Library at Conway Hall, which was built in 1929. This is the most attractive room in the hall, charmingly oak-panelled, with a striking window design.

The book collection comprises approximately 10,000 volumes, combining those of the South Place Ethical Society Library, the Rationalist Press Association Library, the Coit Memorial Library and the National Secular Society's collection. The Library now specialises in subjects relating to ethics, humanism, rationalism and philosophy. Particular areas of interest include the history of science and religion, evolution and consciousness, the history of ideas, the auto/biography of eminent freethinkers and the history of ethical and humanist societies. The Library houses runs of many important 19th century freethought serials, including The Freethinker, The National Reformer, The Republican, The Agnostic Journal, The Literary Guide, and The Secular Review which researchers may consult.

In addition, the Library holds the archives of the South Place Ethical Society and its predecessors, as well as numerous photographs and paintings.
