About InsightLA
OUR MISSION
InsightLA is dedicated to bringing the deep joy and peace of mindfulness and compassion to people everywhere. Our commitment is to provide a warm, supportive learning environment, fostering mindfulness and compassion in all our relationships – with ourselves, with others and with our world.

HISTORY & AFFILIATIONS
InsightLA was founded in 2002 and is supported by philanthropy and program revenues. We offer courses, workshops, and retreats for the integration of mind, body, heart and peaceful, happy living. Buddhist wisdom is at the heart of all our contemplative programs. Trudy Goodman is our Founder and Guiding Teacher.

We have worked with diverse groups: health care professionals, schoolteachers, neuroscientists, artists, actors and studio executives, corporate employees, CEOs, youth and adult prison inmates, families, children, graduate students in business and mental health, university professors, and members of the clergy.

InsightLA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and is affiliated with Spirit Rock Meditation Center, the Center for Religion and Spirituality at Loyola Marymount University, the Insight Meditation Society, the Pediatric Pain Program at UCLA, the Innerkids Foundation, and the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy.

TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
Insight LA provides In-Service Training Programs for health care professionals at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA). A key element of that work is our quarterly day-long retreats with CHLA nurses, doctors, respiratory (& other) therapists, social workers, chaplains and interpreters. Our in-service training program provides practical tools to help caregivers cope compassionately with the emotional challenges of working with children who are gravely ill or dying, and with their families. The retreats teach mindfulness and meditation, providing tools for developing a wise attention that can embrace caregiver and recipients, as well as all the states of mind and heart encountered in facing death and dying.

The program has proven to be popular and beneficial to the many health care professionals at CHLA. As eighty percent of child deaths in hospitals occur in ICUs, the retreats were initially created to help PICU (Pediatric ICU) AND NICU (Neonatal ICU) staffers deal with the grief of multiple losses. The program has since expanded to include practitioners from other units, including Hematology-oncology, Cardio-thoracic, Surgery, and Bone Marrow Transplant.
