I... actually liked this one? More than its predecessors? Maybe because of the politicking between factions with a mystery that opens up more questions than answers? I do think I like the Parasol Protectorate novels more than say, Throne of Glass because Alexia is an older heroine who is pragmatic and has no time to deal with your nonsense, vs. teenage protagonists having to deal with feelings as well as the burden of fulfilling centuries-old prophecy, etc. It's not really fair to compare series who only share female leads/authors and supernatural in common (with different times and tones applied), but I think they're adjacent in my mind because of a similar ambivalence while committing to finishing the series.

Anyway, baby Maccon is going to be a handful and I'm looking forward to their adventures. ( )

Lady Alexia Maccon, una sin alma, ha vuelto, sólo que esta vez el problema no es culpa suya. Cuando un fantasma loco amenaza a la reina, Alexia se ocupa del caso, siguiendo una pista que la lleva a adentrarse en el pasado de su marido. Para colmo, con una hermana que se ha hecho sufragista (¡preocupante!), el último artefacto mecánico de madame Lefoux y una plaga de puercoespines zombis, Alexia apenas tiene tiempo de recordar que está embarazada de ocho meses.
¿Conseguirá Alexia descubrir quién está tratando de matar a la reina Victoria antes de que sea demasiado tarde? ¿Son otra vez los vampiros o hay un traidor con piel de lobo al acecho? Y exactamente, ¿qué ha establecido su residencia en el segundo mejor armario de lord Akeldama?

Oh, this book had it all, didn't it? Dark pasts uncovered, a murder plot to unfold, bisexual werewolves and a very untimely pregnancy. Well, maybe that last one shouldn't be included in the "had it all"-statement, but the rest, oh yes, it worked well.

And yeah, a little vampire-werewolf-human-hybrid baby? TOO CUTE.

Plus Ivy got to prove herself, which I've been waiting for. I do love her, so I wish we see more of her in the next book.

The fourth book managed to be just as good as the rest of the series, and actually had me laughing at a few points. Which is rare, even in books I do find funny. ( )
