Marta's Legacy Duology:

An epic family saga spanning decades, the Marta’s Legacy duology follows four generations of women as they grow up and find their place in the world, exploring the acts of love and sacrifice that are made by mothers for their daughters.

Marta grows up in Switzerland with a demanding father and a mother who coddles her younger sister. Forced to leave school and find work at age 10, Marta does not let anything stand in her way of reaching her ambitions – not even family tragedy.

Eventually, Marta finds her way to Canada and into the arms of her husband, Niclas. When her own daughter is born, Marta is determined to raise a child with enough backbone to stand up for herself, but all Hildemara knows is that her mother doesn’t love her as much as her other children. As each subsequent generation grows up in the shadow of past hurts and misunderstandings, the rifts between family members continue to widen – until someone finally has the courage to bring them all together again before it’s too late to say what needs to be said.

Expanding on the same themes introduced in Leota’s Garden, and inspired by her own family history, Francine Rivers delves deeper into the individual experiences, personality differences, and cultural influences that can shape a person and their relationships over time. It’s a fascinating saga, painful at times, but with much-needed healing and reconciliation at the end! ( )

I had to jump in to this one, immediately after finishing the first one!!! It was also very good, but nerve wracking because many of the issues lived on in the characters - but it's also what makes you want to keep reading!! ( )

The emotional final chapter of an unforgettable family saga about the sacrifices every mother makes for her daughter.

Marta's Legacy Book II

Recently I read Her Daughter's Dream by Francine Rivers. Its story is about relationships and family during a time span of the 1950s to current times. In this read, you will find yourself lost in a world of love, death, reconciliation and the reinvention of self. The family setting spans over 4 generations and intertwines throughout the plot. Marta, Hildamara, Carolyn and May Flower Dawn are the key characters which the story flow around, but the men in their lives also play a key role in how the story progresses. Their spirituality is also another major key to the picture.
Trust in the Lord with all Thine heart; and lean not until thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (Page 262 p. 2)
Francine Rivers is a very talented Christian author. I found this story touched my heart as well as my mind. It was very interesting to me how she made all the connections from different parts into the book tie up all together in the end.
and most were very surprising. The author keeps you guessing until the end. Some parts were a bit slow...but it did pull you to want to find out how the story ends, which causes you to plod through the more boring parts (I hate to say that as a reader...but you know its true..there are sometimes boring parts even in the best of books). Her Daughter's Dream is a thorough and well-written book. ( )

Well, this was certainly better than the first book, but I found the mother-daughter relationships irritating at times. While all the men in the women's lives were sweeties, May Flower Dawn was the only female character I really liked although Marta did grow on me as she grew older and wiser. I found the others self-centred and cold towards their daughters, and at times I wanted to shake them. However, this book did bring me to tears at times at the suffering, hurt and finally forgiveness that the women shared. ( )
