Henry and his classmates first graders love playing soccer during recess but when they start playing, the group bully come and take the ball away from them making them feel helpless and afraid. even when Henry told his teacher it didn't make an end to it. this book tells us that children need to reach out to another adult or their parents if no one seems to help at school

Henry and the Bully is a great story to teach children the importance of bullying. Many children do not understand how bullying makes others feel, and many do not understand that being kind could change a bully. In the story, Henry sees the girl that has been bullying him at school, in a department store trying on a dress. He noticed that she was embarrassed. The next day at school the girl, Sam, came up to Henry and threatened him if he told anyone he saw her in that dress. Instead of Henry getting mean, and even, he simply said to Sam, "I would never do that, you looked embarrassed." Sam was shocked, and that day at recess, instead of bullying Henry, she played with him! Because Henry was kind, and didn't retaliate the mean behavior, Sam did the same thing. This is a great lesson for children to learn; being kind, even to bullies. Many children think that they need to be mean back, or to even hide. However, that is not the case and Henry teaches the children that in this book. ( )

Henry, a first grader, is victim of bullying. A second grader Sam bullies him while playing at recess. Henry does not know how to stop this and thinks thoroughly about how to solve the problem. One day Henry sees Sam and her mom at the store while Sam is trying on a dress she does not like. On Monday Sam threatens Henry to not say anything about the dress and Henry let her know that he would never say anything. That is when Sam realizes that Henry is a nice person and the bullying stops. They become friends.

Comments:
I like the message of the story since this is a very common issue in schools today. This is a great book to read to children to teach them about bullying. ( )

The very serious problem of bullying is taken on as the little mouse learns to think through solving his problem. The first graders could really relate to this problem and wanted to discuss the story in great detail about how they would handle the real-life situation. ( )
