This is a very basic chapter book with only three chapters, so I would recommend it for children who are proficient with reading picture books, but not developmentally ready to sit through long chapters. I would recommend this story for children in the 2nd grade to read independently, but younger students can also listen to this story if it is read by a teacher or parent. The big idea of this story is that even though it is nice to help your parents and the people you care about, you should always listen to them and ask permission before trying to help. This is a valuable lesson for young children who want to be more independent, but are not developmentally ready for some tasks, such as using an oven. The main character is definitely relatable, since most young children want to cook like their parents even though they are too young to use measurements and use all of the necessary appliances. The plot was not very organized and it seemed as if the author was trying to fit in several plot lines in a story that was too short to do so. For example, the whole book had a general theme of food and helping other, but during the last three pages, the story took a turn and discussed ghosts and mysteries. While this book may not explicitly educate children about any multicultural foods, the prompts and discussion questions in the back of the book can lead to a very substantial and culturally relevant talk about food. One of the questions is, “Do you like to cook? What sorts of foods do you like to make?” There is also a prompt that requires students to write down their favorite recipes. In a diverse classroom, many different foods will be used for these activities and students can learn about interesting foods from their classmates. This book was overall very engaging, but the plot was a bit messy and it could have been more engaging with fewer plot lines. ( ) sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
