Ross King presents a look at an interesting and somewhat unfamiliar side of Leonardo. Generally well done. King’s text is good as a cursory study of these aspects of Leonardo’s works, but sometimes he seems to run out of anything new to say, and seems to be repeating himself. But, it’s a quick read and worth the trouble.

Regarding Levenger Press’s production, this is nicely done, as is typical of Levenger productions, with two color printing and decorative accents on nearly every page. However, I was disappointed that more of Leonardo’s illustrations were not used, especially in the ‘bestiary’ section. To read details about his bestiary, but to only have one image is a bit of a let-down.

Altogether a good read, but not great, and, given the price (new), one might be better off buying this on the used market
