A little boy shares his experiences about his first day of school. He starts off his day nervous, but by the end of the day, he is happy and excited to learn. I love the rhyming throughout the story, and the illustrations are simple, yet precious. ( )

There are a few reasons why I liked this book about the first day of school. The first reason I liked this book was because of the plot. The plot relates to every person in this world who has experienced a first day of school, and also prepares children who haven't had their first day of school. "My first day of school I hopped out of bed and dressed in my best, from my toes to my head!" Here children get the idea of looking their best and being prepared for school. The second thing that I liked was the authors use of language throughout the book. The language was in a rhyming pattern that I felt made the story more appealing to read. "At school, there were children going every which way, all shined up like diamonds for their very first day." This patterned language keeps the reader entertained while they are reading. Lastly, I enjoyed the illustrations throughout the book. Although they were hand drawn, I felt that they portrayed the real world very well, and helped readers to see what a school might look like. In conclusion, I think that the 'big idea' of this book was to teach children that the first day of school should not be scary. The first day of school is exciting and school is a place where you can learn new and interesting information. ( )

My first day of school focuses on children's first day fears. Will I like my teacher? Will I meet friends? This is a good story to have children talk about what makes them nervous for school. ( )

"My First Day of School" is a great first day of school book for kindergarten, first, and second grade students. The book is about a little boy that goes to his first day of school. The book goes through all the different things you will so on the first day of school. They got nametags, found their desk that their name on it, learned where the bathrooms, at lunch, played at recess, learned rhyming words, played animal games, talked about safty, and learned how to get on the bus. All the words throughout the book rhymed and all the pictures were really cute. This is a good book to read because it shows the kids what you might do on the first day of school. It also talks about how much fun learning is, which will encourage your students to also think learning can be fun. I loved reading it and would recommend this book to any teacher!!
