The Nazi Germany invasion of Britain was averted by the magnificent RAF defence of the British Isles from the onslaught of the until then undefeated Luftwaffe. PM Churchill said in the Autumn of 1940 as the Air Battles in the skies over Britain and the Channel reduced and Hitler's forces suffered their first crucial defeat, "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."
