This was another book where I was pretty sure I’d read it before, but couldn’t remember at all what happened. Plus it was immediately available on Overdrive, so here we are!

I am a huge fan of Lisa Jewell’s more recent thrillers, but I’ll read anything she has written. The Making of Us is one of her older family dramas, which she also does very well. She is a master of painting complex, compelling characters that draw you into their stories and make the reader eager to find out more about them. ( )

Lisa Jewell is becoming one of my favorites. This is the third book of hers that I absolutely loved. The Making of Us is about Lydia, Dean, and Robyn, three young people who have never met each other and always believed that they were only children. Their lives are forever changed when they learn that not only are they are the products of a sperm donor, but they have living brothers and sisters, and that their father wants to meet all of them.

Jewell builds the action slowly until you become completely absorbed in the characters and their lives. Her previous novels that I enjoyed were very dark, but this one is lighter and hopeful. It is ultimately a heart-warming story about the need for belonging and the meaning of family. Highly recommend. ( )

Lydia, Dean, and Robyn are all young singles whose lives come together when they learn that they all share the same father and visit him on his deathbed. There was actually a fourth sibling but he passed away early on. The three surviving siblings were conceived by different mothers who all went to a sperm bank and used the same donor sperm. ( )

A great downtime read. Jewell has a knack of taking a central concept and weaving a story out of it. It is simplistic, non taxing and enjoyable.
