Matt Jensen is the last of the mountain men. He was taught how to live off the land and his fighting skills by none other than Smoke Jensen. Smoke learned much from another mountain man known as Preacher. If you like engaging action and adventure, check out the author’s website for various novels and tales including Preacher and Smoke at https://williamjohnstonebooks.com
In Dakota Ambush, Matt had been helped by a newspaper man named John Bryce many years ago. Now, John Bryce and the town of Fullerton need Matt’s unique set of skills to stop a man who is bent on making all the inhabitants his serfs. When Matt arrives, he is immediately faced with a killer who has been hired by Denbigh. From there, the story once again takes off in wild and crazy ways as Matt meets some nice town folk and learns of some men who have been killed in order to enforce Denbigh’s rules.
I enjoyed reading another novel with Mett Jensen as the central character because he is a man who comes to the aid of others. Matt doesn’t help for money but because friendship and doing what is right matters to him. At first, it seemed some of the town folk weren’t open to him as they saw him as a hired gun; yet, Matt’s actions set him apart from Denbigh’s men.
Each of the books in the series can be read as a stand-alone. However, I have enjoyed reading the series in order and seeing how Matt handles himself and dispatches the villains. Grab a copy, get lost for a while in the Old West! Audiences can find a book list on the author’s website. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself becoming a huge fan of the tales in Johnstone country!
