This author always has a bit of a humorous style so no great angst or tension here. The story seems like it might be a spinoff of another series. I don't know. Anyway it's paranormal. All the regular players are here although I didn't see any fae and since I'm not real fond of them I was glad. There is a new type of paranormal which is a pyte which is a super vampire who is born and not dead and can live in the sun etc. Anyway I enjoyed the story. I started reading the 6th book because it came up on my amazon feed and sounded really interesting. I wasn't very far in before I realized this is not a series you can read out of order. So I went back and am working my way through. I liked the story. I enjoyed both the hero and the heroine. There was some sex but I mostly just skim that. Not a prude but have read it all before. I'm more interested in the action, plot and development of the romance. I nice easy read. So I'm in one of those moods where I've been looking for something funny, just want something to help lighten the mood. R.L. Mathewson's Neighbor's from Hell is without a doubt one of the funniest books I've ever read, I mean snorting and waking my hubs multiple times throughout the night. So this was in my TBR and since I knew Mathewson is amazing at funny I gave Tall, Dark & Lonely a shot. I'm not saying this book doesn't give the reader a few random chuckles but it's definitely not on the same caliber. 'Oh Kayla but what if Mathewson wasn't trying to write a funny novel' okay well as a regular paranormal romance it probably only deserves one star. This was just not a very well written book. Instead of chugging along smoothly it constantly felt like I was having to hike up hills to get to any good parts... it took me 2 days to read this (I read 2 books a day there's no excuse for this) I got to a point where I just would have rather watched old episodes of The Office then keep reading. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

When the mother that abandoned them years ago suddenly shows up and moves them to New Hampshire, Madison has no choice but to go or lose her family. Shoving her dreams aside yet again, she tries to make a life for her siblings only to discover that nothing is going the way that it should. It's really cold. Her fifteen year old sister acts like a hooker in training. Men act funny around her. Her boss is a real jerk. She feels like an outsider. Her best friend turns out to be a mouthy sixteen year old kid and the incredibly handsome guy renting the room adjoining hers not only hogs the bathroom, taking three showers a day and leaving her with cold water, but he also has a secret. A secret that she becomes a bit obsessed with and can't let go no matter how many times she's warned off.Detective Ephraim Williams learned long ago not to show any emotion or allow himself to get attached to humans. What was the point? They came and went and he remained. This time wouldn't be any different or so he thought. When his landlady told him that her grandchildren were moving in he didn't expect much, well other than to be left alone. What he didn't expect was to have to fight bloodlust every time he so much as caught the scent of his delectable neighbor's blood or her bombarding him with questions every time she cornered him. If that's not bad enough, a Master from his past has found him once again and is demanding his blood and is willing to do anything to get it, even using the beautiful, irritating, neighbor that makes him feel more than pain for the first time in centuries to get it.
