Very different feel from urban fantasy. Closer to horror, I'd say. Only not really horrible. Cosy horror, like cosy murder mysteries? One thing that struck me was the worry about which side this 300 year old man had been on at the time of the american revolution, and the relief at his having been on the "right" side. Hard to believe that people still place such importance on that... But then, my country was in part founded by people who were on the "wrong" side. And I suppose Americans make a big deal of it in their history books. They did in the ones I remember reading as a child. Book two in the series and Emma is trying to find a way to save her mother, still wondering who to trust, it's a slow burner that gets more interesting towards the end, I am interested in reading the rest of the series but I'm still holding fire on whether or not I'm going to keep this series, it all hinges on the next two books. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Can't remember all the details now, but this was most where Emma's mum - the youthful Elanor, was coma bound, trapped by multiple curses in the wasteland. Emma has to explore old Paris looking for the source of the original curse so that she can "moot" it, along with Blaise's help. This draws them closer together.
Pretty much the same as before, Emma works as a belivable older woman Urban fantasy heorine with sort of special powers, but refreshingly not to MarySue over the top. A bit of research and luck she discover a bit more about the other world and the nature of curses, as well as her previosuly absent greater family. It ends on another sort of cliff hanger supposed to encourage you through the rest of the series.
Remains readable, and better than some of Abbey's other work, but is still ins't that captivating. ( )
