I love Sailor Moon.

I watched all the anime (the original one, that is).

Anyhow. There was nothing worthwhile about this third volume. I found it to be very confusing and messy. I can't even begin to describe how the translation has been done - it's like it's been done by a child.

The anime handled the plot better as well. In my opinion, the original manga is too self-destructive. So far, Usagi has killed herself twice because she didn't want Mamoru to live without her. I'm not interested in that kind of life.

I think the anime's creators realized that romanticizing suicide for loved ones was unwise, so they changed it. Likewise, I love it this way.

That's just my opinion. Perhaps that's why I've never really liked Romeo and Juliet. The final battle was messy, with lots of drama, twists, and tears. There was nothing there. I find it too gimmicky.

The epic, world-shattering battle full of dramatic self-sacrifice, and then reincarnation, that ends the first story arc concludes, and then we immediately move on to the beginning of this new story.

Chibi-Usa's introduction is odd and half-stupid, and her setting herself up as a cuckoo in Usagi's home by hypnotizing Usagi's parents doesn't sit well with me. It's obvious to me who Chibi-Usa is, and there are plenty of clues that make it clear why she's drawn to Usagi and Mamoru, but still. Both as a character and as a plot device, she does not appeal to me. So it's just as well that the story quickly shifts the emphasis to the new enemy, the Black Moon Kingdom, which is kidnapping one by one the guardians.

Takeuchi's art improved in this volume, but I cannot say exactly how.

As for this series, I don't see myself continuing it.

This is a follow-on to my review of vol. 2 and as such will note only differences.

Story
This volume had a great finale which completed the main story line, but now halfway through another similar adventure begins; however, I'm not particularly inclined to continue for the reasons I enumerated in vol. 1's review. Although I'll continue watching the anime w/my daughter. ;) ( )

This book has the end of the Queen Beryl arc and the beginning of the Dark Moon story arc, and while the beginning of the Dark Moon arc is not the strongest, it's the electrifying conclusion to Usagi's fight against Metalia is good enough to push this book from a 3 to a 4 star. It's also the start of seeing Usagi's friends get methodologically kidnapped - and yes, I'll be that jerk and ask why not Venus, but I guess she actually served a larger purpose for the story? The art of Usagi in action as Sailor Moon, however, is as gorgeous as ever. Plus, Chibiusa and Luna-P are super cute. ( )

Sailor Moon was my favorite cartoon when I was a child! I have loved getting to relive through reading the Manga that it was inspired by!

If you've never read or watched Sailor Moon, it's very much the superhero vs villain storyline. They are constantly working to save the world from one enemy or another. I remember looking up to Sailor Moon and dreaming about Tuxedo Mask as a young girl. In fact, I'm pretty sure he was one of my first crushes and the reason I've always liked black hair and blue eyes! Loa.

They have a new show out, Sailor Moon Crystal that does an amazing job at following this original Manga storyline. I highly recommend it to those who don't like to read. But I recommend the series in general for pretty much everyone. It definitely helped me in believing that I could do anything as a young girl. ( )

A continuation of the story. In this one we come to the final battle of the first television series and start the next series. Love it! ( )

Do not combine the original print with the shinsouban. The original print for Sailor Moon has 18 volumes and the reprints (shinsouban: 新装版) have the chapters regrouped to complete in 12 volumes. Volume 3 for the original print contains Acts 10-12, while Volume 3 for the shinsouban contains Acts 12-16.
