Herman Parish’s picture book follows the story of Amelia and her friend Jen, and how Amelia gains a new friend. This book has fun illustrations and has imaginative. This is good for teaching children how to cherish old friends while making new ones.

There are real Amelia Bedelia books, but this one is a graded reader and that is I suppose inoffensive but uninspiring, and who has the time. These are for kindergarteners to read to themselves at quiet time, while busy grownups exert some curatorial savvy for bedtime. ( )

This story is about a little girl Amelia who's best friend lives next door to her. They love doing everything together until one day her best friend moves away and Amelia misses her so much. One day Amelia sees a moving truck pull in to her neighbors house and she hope that her best friend is moving back but it turns out its an old lady moving in. Amelia befriends the old lady and they do all kinds of fun things together even when her friend comes back to visit. The central message of this story is that sometimes friends move away and it is sad but they can still be our friends and we shouldn't be afraid to make new friends no matter how old they are. The more friends the better, its great to keep old friends and even better to make new ones. ( )
