This book fit perfectly into our frog unit on adaptations and survival. It was very long, too long to read to my third graders. They loved the photos, and I paraphrased a lot of the text. It was a great text to use to spark discussion and form hypothesis around. Students were able to see how scientists are not only knowledgable in their field, but they are also problem-solvers out in the world. Many students wanted to continue research on the golden frog, and others wanted to create posters to raise awareness after listening to the story. It was also a good book to read to my students, because it does not follow the traditional sequence of a text that has a "solution" or "happy ending". ( )

Science and mystery come together in the this story about Golden Frogs. It is filled with information about the what, who, how and why and has suggested readings and websites for further exploration. This would be a wonderful book to share when discussing vanishing animals. ( )

In this text the author shares about how scientists discovered the cause of the vanishing Golden frogs in Panama. She describes their process for discovering why they were disappearing, and what they had to do to try and save the frogs.

Part of being a scientist is to look at things, in this case it is little yellow frogs. But it is not just looking st it, in this case scientists were looking at the fact that these little yellow frogs were not found in abundance where they were found a couple of years ago. They are disappearing, it's almost like a mystery! What is the cause of their disappearance. This book looks at all the possibilities and tells the reader why or why not a threat is not always the cause for disappearance of this little creature. Wonderful illustrations, pictures and maps accompany the journey to find the cause. ( )

The Photography is stellar and the textual content is thoughtful and clear. The photography and readability work in a partnership to create a wonderful non-fiction book that I am sure many will love and already really adore. I look forward to using this as a teaching tool.

Wow, I feel attached to these little frogs after this. I also feel like I am well versed in the life that they live and what scientists have done to keep them alive. I chose this book because of the vivid photographs that Markle uses. They are so magnified and clear, very visually appealing. I wasn’t aware of the Bd that was killing so many frogs around the world. I think that if I was doing a project in the classroom that I would most definitely use this book to educate children on the importance of keeping a healthy habitat. I feel that this book really allows you, as the reader, to show sympathy and feel driven to make a difference, and I can relate to that. As educators we are kind of like scientists in the fact that we are always looking for the newest methods and the answers to solve problems and make a difference.
