I enjoyed the illustrations that this book provided. A Caldecott Honor Book, this story takes readers on a wordless adventure, following the story of a boy who's class field trip to the Empire State Building takes him to the clouds to another world. This book could be used to show children the importance of illustrations in stories. Because this book doesn't have any words, the illustrations have to clearly show the storyline. ( )

I am having difficulty finding the right word to explain my feelings regarding the illustrations in the
Caldecott Award-winning book. There are no words, only images that tell the story. The images are incredible.

A young boy goes on a school trip to the top of the Empire State building in New York City. While there, it becomes exceedingly cloudy. Looking up, he sees a cloud with a personality. Smiling, wearing read gloves, a scarf and a hat, the cloud wraps itself around the young boy, and together they travel up and away to the destination of Sector 7.

Sector 7 is the arrival and departure place of clouds. While there, the boy sketches images other than clouds, including a large star with a face, and many large fish. After the boy is returned to the Empire State Building, the sky is filled with clouds, and fish.

If you like illustrated books, this is a great one to add to your collection. ( )

I really enjoyed this book because the pictures made it easy to understand the story line and it was a creative story. I like that the title of the book, "Sector 7," relates to the story but you would not know that unless you read and understood the book. The illustrations clearly pictured the class on a field trip to the Empire State Building, going up to the top and outside, then it gets foggy and a cloud boy appears to take the human little boy on an adventure in the sky to Sector 7. Before I read the book, I did not know what Sector 7 was. I learned that it was a part of the "cloud station" and sector 7 was a part of that where certain clouds would enter. I would use this book in a classroom because it is enjoyable and there are a lot of things that can be interpreted from the illustrations. It would be a good worldless picture book to show to upper elementary ELL students because the plot is easy to generally determine but they could also point out other things to better understand it.

I gave Sector 7 a 5 out of 5 because even though it was a wordless picture book, it was so imaginative. As a little boy travels with his class to the top of the Empire State Building, there is very limited visiblity. As he is trying to see something through the dense fog, he befriends a cloud. The cloud whisks the little boy away to Sector 7, taking him on a completely different and unexpected trip. I also think the book is relatable and easy to understand. Many people have, at some point in their life, seen the shapes in clouds or wished they could travel among their pillowy softness. I also think this book provides great opportunity for discussion among students. Everyone can participate and share their opinions and explore their own imagination about what they think is happening in the story. I also really loved the appearance of Sector 7, which looked like a busy train station with arrival and departure platforms. It's pretty cool to imagine that clouds have scheduled "departure" and "arrival" times. I highly recommend this book! ( )

This is a wordless picture book about a boy who goes on a trip with a friendly could to Sector 7, the place where clouds are formed. The boy helps all the clouds get out of their rut and form into the shapes of wonderful ocean creatures. Soon the whole sky over Manhattan looks like a magical sea. Amazing illustrations five a truly magical feeling. ( )
