Good book and author should have taken all four of the books at Apple Island ( ) I was a bit hesitant to start this, mostly because of the topic of rape, as well as the synopsis about Joe Gunther going against the establishment (yet again). But the book surprised me and I ended up liking it. The story was rather dark and it made me uncomfortable more than once. However, I feel it was done with respect and the focus being what happens after the crime is committed? How do you move one from this? In this adventure of Brattleboro, Vermont's chief of detectives, Joe Gunther's girl friend is raped. If that sounds distasteful, it is. Despite that, Gunther does have to solve a surprisingly convoluted mystery and survive a vicious physical attack. And again, the appeal of the series comes from Mayor's very precise descriptions of the human and physical - and, this time also, the political setting of his stories. This is a goodie, involving a brutal rape, a search for the perpetrator, and, of course, the twist. I caught the slightly unnecessary bit of information near the beginning of the book, and the one question no one thought to ask the victim (before Joe realized it was critical), but that just added to my pleasure. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
