This is a very hard book to classify. It's fantasy but not paranormal or urban or even really magic. It's young adult but only in terms of one mention of violence her arm is twisted and ends up bruised and one aftermath of violence scene a young foreign female servant has been kept in a visiting prince's room and is beaten up and presumably repeatedly raped - implied anyway otherwise it could easily pass as middle grade with the fluttery feelings of romance and the rather young mindsets of almost adult teenagers who act like they're tweens. It could be contemporary except for the inclusion of the alternate world she steps into. The romance is sweet but you'll miss it if you blink. The closest I could come in terms of similar books would be Shelley Adina's Magnificent Devices which is more in terms of being a clean read and the same tame feeling I get from both books than anything to do with the actual plot. Younger older teens isn't exactly a common audience. That said, I really enjoyed it.

This is hard to classify but it's an enjoyable read if you don't mind a clean read with a straightforward plot. I liked William and I liked Quinn and I loved William's family. I don't usually enjoy my normal worlds being mixed with fantasy dimensions but I got on board with it pretty quickly considering. The mystery was interesting and I liked the medical slant - it was interesting William going back and forth to find medical cures. It's not a perfect read but there's something very charming about it all. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. ( )

Going in to Seeds of Discovery was like walking in to a blank room. I hadn't read the synopsis. I only knew that the book cover was gorgeous and it was Fantasy, so of course I'd read it. That was the best possible choice! I went in knowing nothing, and fell in love all the more for it. Let me start out by saying one simple word: immersive. This is the type of book that will grab you, pull you in, and lock you in the world that it builds around you.

Quinn Robbins is such a great character. She's sweet, just popular enough, and down to earth. She manages to be both bookish and a social person at the same time! Go figure that you can have both those qualities, right? From the very beginning I fell in love with her demeanor. Quinn is the type of girl that I saw a little bit of myself in, from all different facets. Following her is so enjoyable that it's easy to get lost in the story.

The other characters aren't overshadowed though. William, Thomas, and all the rest shine in their own way as well. Puttroff builds a cast of characters that makes it easy to see why Quinn becomes so torn near the end of the book. If I had to choose between two wonderful existences, I'm not sure which one I would choose either. William was especially wonderful. I liked the slow growth that he showed as he opened up to Quinn. These are characters who make it simple to fall in step with them. It really enhances the story.

As for pacing, overall Seeds of Discovery is extremely well done. It does start out a little slow admittedly. Mostly to build back story for what is to come. Once Quinn steps foot into the new world, everything changes. I know that sometimes it is tough as a reader to completely immerse yourself in the world that the author builds. For me, that wasn't the case here at all. When Quinn stepped foot into William's world, so did I. I could smell flowers and see buildings. Breeana Puttroff doesn't over-describe, but still manages to allow you to get the full effect.

I know this review is getting long, so I'll stop here! Minus a few small issues I had as a reader, I really fell head over heels in love with Seeds of Discovery. This just once again proves to me that just because a book is Indie doesn't mean it can't be amazing! Breeana Puttroff's book is the whole package. Beautifully written, easy to immerse yourself in, and a joy to read. Lovers of Fantasy novels, rejoice. This is one that you'll want to read again and again. The best part? There's more to the series! I can't wait. ( )

I never know what to expect from independent authors who are not represented by the large publishers. I came upon this book by accident, through contact with the author on a blogging site. When I sat down to read, my mind was a blank slate, trying to have no expectations whatsoever. What I discovered in this novel was beyond anything I could have imagined. Those of you who know me know how much I love a good fantasy story, but this one just put me over the top in my love for the genre.

Quinn is a girl who pretty much any teenage girl could relate to, and you are instantly drawn to her. But Quinn cannot leave a mystery unsolved and, in trying to figure out what secret William is hiding, she gets sucked into an adventure she could never have imagined in her wildest dreams. In a way, it is also a journey of self discovery, though that is not the obvious element of the story.

Quinn finds herself in a whole new world that she never knew existed, a whole new plane of existence, if you will. When she finally gets life to return to "normal," she finds herself torn between the boy she has known all of her life, and a group of strangers that, in the time frame of the "real world" she has only known for a day or so.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable read that I could not walk away from, and I found myself staying up late and foregoing sleep just to get to the end and find out what was going to happen next, only to realize that there are two more books, which I cannot wait to read. I would strongly encourage any fan of YA/Fantasy Fiction to pick this one up. It is a must read! ( )

I will be completely honest when I say this; there wasn't anything particularly notable about this book.

Why did I give this book 3/5 stars, you ask?

Well, I loved the simplicity of this story. It was not complicated at all; it had a very simple story-line, which even action-lovers like me like to read once in a while. I was immediately hooked.

This story follows an ordinary girl, Quinn, who ends up in another world. A girl with no supernatural qualities, just a girl in high school. Most of the books I have read have these chicks with all these perfect qualities; there is something special about them, they are loved by all, are not afraid of anything, and to top it all off, they're strikingly beautiful. Now how are us readers supposed to relate to these kinds of characters? Quinn is so relatable, which made her likable from the start.

Quinn was a very sensible girl, and, unlike other heroines, is smart and has common sense. I like the way the author starts off the book with Quinn, like other normal teenagers, worrying about normal teenage issues. It makes, the readers, take an immediate liking to her.

Another aspect I loved: There was no "love at first sight" crap that most YA these days have.

I have to admit, my inner 5-year-old self squealed when I found out that there was going to be princes, princesses, kings, and queens. However, I wish the author described the setting more. The castles or the world in general weren't explained much. It would have gave this story more of a "fantasy" feel to it.

Most of the secondary characters were a bit flat. They weren't very unique; to me, they all seemed to have the same personality. That being said, Thomas and William were very well-written characters, and both three-dimensional.

I think that this series has plenty of room to grow into a captivating fantasy. There was just so many questions left unanswered, which naturally pikes my curiosity. For sure, I will be reading the rest of this series. ( )
