What Leaders Believe is an invaluable look at the journey of leadership through scions of thought and their direct - and at times, tangential - commentary. Polk and White base their journey within six pillars of thought in the discipline, which give new insight into words across the centuries.

"Leading is a learned skill. Like any other human skill that deals with people, harnessing the true power of influencing others requires practice. And while some people are born with greater talent or aptitude than others, throughout history many have learned to become true masters at leading people to achieve positive outcomes."
"If we can assume that we are, or somehow can become, emotionally wired to be good, the question then follows whether we can stay that way."
