I am knowledgeable about mushrooms, but even so I learned a few things. Dr. Money has well considered opinions o all things fungal. An entertaining and informative read for anyone interested in the natural world. ( )

I could write a one-thousand-word review waxing lyrical about just how much I enjoyed this book, but it would be unbearable. I won't inflict that upon you. I will instead say, quite simply, that 'Mushroom' is the amateur mycophile's idea of a fantastic book. Of special note is the author's description of the fungal spore release mechanism which, despite such a dull-sounding phrase, is in fact a rather astonishing process. But even if you are not so inclined to enjoy such microscopic examinations, if you have even a rudimentary interest in mycology you will enjoy this book – it is broad in scope, non-technical, and above all written in a wonderfully engaging style.

Nature alone is antique, and the oldest art a mushroom.
--Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881, Scottish essayist)
Someday the delights of a mushroom hunt along lush pastures and rich woodlands will take the rank of the gentlest craft among those of hunting, and may perchance find its own Izaak Walton.
