Alexandra.Moraiti: They are both well written compassionate, funny and humane books. Although Wonder isn't about a boy with a disability , both books tell the story of two individuals that manage the socially imposed difficulties of their 'conditions'. The narration in both is in first person in Wonder by August Pullman(Auggie ), his friends and family, and in The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night-time by Christopher Boone, a boy with Asperger's Syndrome.… (mais)

This book discusses a sensitive topic especially in todays time where kids seem to care immensely about their image and how attractive other people think they are. August looks a little different than other kids and has been that way since birth which has kept him from attending a regular school. In this book, it shows August's journey in attending the new school and his navigation through it all. I think this book would be a class favorite due to students struggling with self image and their confidence. ( )

This book follows the story of August, or Auggie, who has a visible disability. This is a heartwarming and heartbreaking story at the same time. It shows his struggle in building friendships, facing bullies, and having the worst reactions from people possible. You also get to see the story from a few different view points. It is definitely a book that will make you cry. It received the Junior Young Readers Choice award in 2015. ( )

Wonder is a great book for parents to read with their children. It is a comedy drama set in present time. It is about a boy with a disfugrement and he learns to accept himself and his differences. It is very relatable because kids can see their own challenges and how they too can overcome.

This book is a fantastic book for kids in middle school or high school. It would honestly be a great read for adults as well. It follows August's journey through his first year of school after being homeschooled for many years. He is treated differently because of the many surgeries that he has had. They make him look differently, but that does not mean he thinks or is any lesser than any other students at the school. It is a good read for kids to understand what to do and what not to do when you meet someone different from you. ( )

3.5 I'm on the edge for this book. It was very strong overall, especially for a contemporary. The story was very meaningful. It was not middle grade, not YA, but somewhere in between with characters from both age groups. There are enough perspectives for anyone to find someone to relate to.

With all the points of view giving their side of events in the story, it was sometimes repetitive, especially in the beginning. Also, some perspectives bugged me. One had no capitalization nor quotations. ( )

Shall we make a new rule of life...always to try to be a little kinder than is necessary? -J.M. Barrie, The Little White Bird
"Kinder than is necessary," he [Mr. Tushman] repeated. What a marvelous line, isn't it? Kinder than is necesary. Because it's not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed. Why I love that line, that concept, is that it reminds me that we carry with us, as human beings, not just the capacity to be kind, but the very choice of knindness. -Palacio, p. 300

"It glimmered in their kindness to him ... Such a simple thing, kindness. Such a simple thing. A nice word of encouragment given when needed. An act of friendship. A passing smile." -Palacio, p. 300.
