Beautiful, inspiring, entertaining. I truly love this book. Auggie's story is so endearing and I certainly feel moved to strive to be "kinder than necessary." Palacio's charaters are so rich. I could go on. I highly recommend this book. ( ![]() Great read about facing the real world and the cruelty that lingers around. It doesn't only talk about the main characters view, but it gives views from siblings and even parents. This shows the effects of verbal abuse and the toll it do to someone. Also throughout the book it shows how the characters embrace and handle everything they face. Wonder is a book about a boy named Auggie that has a specific gene where he needed 27 surgeries and still is a medical mystery to many doctors. Auggie goes through many trials like bullying and people staring. he also struggles with hearing due to his surgeries. This book is a great read for kids to show that everyone is different but we all go though life trials. Auggie perseveres throughout the book and realizes yes he is different but he is special and can do what all the other kids can do as well. Wonder is a book about a young boy, Auggie Pullman, who has a congenital facial abnormality. The novel follows Auggie's first year of middle school from beginning to end and shows how Auggie copes with his struggles and people's reactions to his abnormality. Wonder is written in multiple voices, which allows the readers to see different points of view and other people's perspectives (Auggie's sister Via and some of his friends). Even though this novel is intended for 4th-8th grade students, I recommend this book to all ages because of the huge impact it has on you as a reader. The novel contains the themes of identity, bullying, and acceptance, which are all very important areas to take a closer look at, especially at the middle school age. Wonder is such a moving, inspiring, and uplifting book and teaches the valuable lesson to not judge someone by their outer appearance, but by the content of their character and inner characteristics. This novel is relatable, deep, and complex and will be one of the many books my students will have the opportunity to read. Auggie Pullman, who was born with facial differences, has been homeschooled his whole life. As he steps into fifth grade, his parents sent him to the mainstream school system, having to learn how to navigate through friendships, community, and acceptance. This book would be great for students who may be new to the class or who may be having a hard time fitting in. Upper elementary.
