Bill Holm is a Minnesota aurtor. Bob Firth is a Minnesota photographer.
"Here is a book full of pictures of stuff nobody wants to look art and of essays on subjects no one wants to read about." So says Bill Holm, author of Landscape of Ghosts; the "stuff" to which he refers includes rusty red farmtrucks, a fallen-off windmill wheel, and broken windows. Photographer Bob Firth provocatively captures these leavings on the landscape and presents them with Holm's lively essays in an exploration into America's rural past, our collective unconscious. However, Landscape of Ghosts is far more than just visual and verbal meditations on junk: It provides us with important reminders of what was. As we go with Bill Holm on a walk through his hometown of Minneota, he shoes us the value of each old silo, weathered barn, falling down farmhouse, and solitary graveyard. Throughout, he illuminated his theme with the occasional help of the poetry of Robert Bly and other Midwestern writers. Firth's images brim with passion and affection. He shows us the ghostliness of our material landscape, while recalling the human beings that were once behind it. In Landscape of Ghosts, Holm and Firth do not long for yesteryear nor practice nostalgia upon us. Rather, if the reader cares to listen and look with care, they teach us about the present by having a goof sit-down with the past. - Dust jacket. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
