Stone Barrington is in Bel-Air, overseeing the grand opening of the ultra-luxe hotel, The Arrington, built on the grounds of the mansion belonging to his late wife, Arrington Carter. The star-studded gala will be attended by socialites, royalty, and billionaires from overseas, and according to phone conversations intercepted by the NSA, it may also have attracted the attention of international terrorists. To ensure the safety of his guests, Stone may have to call in a few favors from the CIA.… (mais)

Easy to read, hard to put down; so I didn't. Middle East terrorists seek to avenge Bin Ladin with a really big bang. Not only that but it will disrupt the opening of The Arrington. Spooks, security and all sorts of A Levelers are in Bel Air and the need to thwart the bad guys is at its highest. ( )

Stone Barrington is called to Bel-Air to oversee an exclusive event that will gather the top echelons of the beau monde: Hollywood starlets, socialites, politicos, billionaires from overseas. It’s a task in which Stone has a personal stake, and one that is made all the more pleasurable—though somewhat more complicated—with the arrivals of two beautiful women with whom he’s intimately acquainted.

But the grand occasion has also attracted a dangerous criminal group with sinister plans. The hunt to find them leads Stone into a complex web of deceit and misdirection, in a world where the intrigues of government intelligence collide with the clandestine machinations of the upper crust. As he draws nearer to his quarry, he realizes that the stakes are higher than anybody could ever imagine . . . and that the enemies he’s seeking might just be hiding in plain sight. ( )

Pretty good book, but not what we think of a retired cop lawyer from NYC. No great mental effort is required . In this book, Stone saves the world from nuclear holocaust by a radical Islamic dude. Dino plays a role, but a small one, most of the book is taken up by the new best friends in high places. Actions taken by government officials in response to some whacko local lawyer (Stone) are pretty fantastic--few impediments kept Stone from achieving his goal. Stone's son blooms. Stone gets laid--duh? Next book, please! ( )

The Arrington Hotel is having it's grand opening. Among the famous guests will be two presidents. A world wide organization has chosen this day to make a statement. The CIA, FBI, and Stone and his former partner, Dino, must work to not let that statement be made. I have read Stuart Wood's books for more years than I care to remember and I especially like the Stone Barrington series. Mr. Woods does not waste time on lengthy descriptions. His characters all have loads of power to accomplish literally anything their hearts desire. That of course comes with absolutely endless supplies of financial support. These characters are never stuck raising funds, trying to sort out how the task will be accomplished, they just plunge ahead and do it. I highly recommend all of Stuart Woods books. The Will Lee series, the Holly Barker "Orchid" series and the Ed Eagle series as well as the Stone Barrington series. ( )

Synopsis: Still missing Addington, Stone is at the opening of the hotel named in her honor. Also at the grand opening are the Presidents of the US and of Mexico. This presents a great opportunity for extremists, who are bent of avenging the death of bin Laden, to strike out at the government and at the US in general. Stone, Holly and the usual cast of characters must act quickly to prevent a disaster.
Review: This was fun to read, but no great mental twister. There is the normal gratuitous sex and lots of running amok that typify these books. There is at least one loose end that will lead to another adventure. ( )
