Life should be charmed for sixteen-year-old Calista McCoy. But being a psychic, empathic, fire-starting witch isn't all magical fun and games, even if it does come with a snazzy new wardrobe and an awesome beach house in California. Now she is a target for the deadly Hunters who seek out new, vulnerable witches. Any exposure of her magical abilities can have disastrous consequences. And with covens all over the world constantly fighting with one another, it's hard to know who to trust. If all that weren't bad enough, now she has to go to some snooty private school for rich kids...not exactly a dream situation for a shy girl raised in the slums of the Louisiana bayou.Things look up when she meets the gorgeous and mysterious Nicholas, and she instantly falls under his captivating spell. But it soon becomes clear that not all of Calista's new friends are who they appear to be...especially Nicholas. And once the thin veil between fantasy and reality is shattered, no one is safe from the evil that has snuck into their lives. Dare to dream...… (mais)

this book is a very well written YA novel. It is engaging and has good characters. The author has some very good storytelling skills. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. BTW I am an adult and, yes, i recommend that some adults read it. It is very light. You open the book, read it and your enveloped in the world of witches. It is nice to come across a story that lets you float away. ( )

So I liked the premise of the story
but for the first 80 some pages of the
book I felt like we did not get anywhere
and when we did I felt like I was unable
to have any feelings for the characters
Nice story but I wanted it to be something
more and although I can't begin to explain
I think it just took too long to get to
the part of the story that I liked. I am
giving it 3 stars based on the fact
that I liked the last 50% of the book a
Whole Lot. ( )

I've heard a lot of fuss about these books, and I have to wonder why. Then again, I also have to wonder if I read too much or watch too many fantasy-type series on TV, because most of what I read these days reminds me of some other book or show or author. This one... just more of the same.

I had a number of moments where I flashed back to The Craft and The Secret Circle. Only difference is here (so far at least) there's only 3 witches, but they're still all teenage girls.

One thing I do like about Witchy, Witchy (though at the same time makes it too YA for my tastes) is these girls deal with normal, every day, teenage girl problems. Not all of their problems are magical, and they don't try to use their magic to solve those problems, either. What a relief!

I thing Penelope King has taken a much more realistic approach to the world of witchcraft in fiction than I've seen to date. Real people mean real problems, whereas magic has its own set of problems, and, occasionally, the two will overlap and, well, that's when crap hits the fan.

I may continue to read on just because there are obviously a number of years ahead of these girls and I hope to see the books grow with them. ( )

I felt like I was taking a step into a magical world with the heroine of this book and what a wonderful world it is. This young girls uncertainty of her magical abilities and starting a new life in a new place is a situation that many tween and young adults can identify with along with making new friends and trying to fit in. I was won over by both the heroine and the story and look forward to the next book in the series. ( )
