Wolves by Michael Dahl is a basic informational book which provides young readers with facts about wolves. Each two page layout has a large photograph of a wolf with a title in catching font and three to four sentences about the topic. The book is organized by topics and the sentences pertaining to each topic are short and direct. There is an index, a glossary, and a page with websites and other books to check out.

I used this book as part of a simple study on wolves with my kindergarten boys. This was the first book on wolves I read to them and I chose it first because simple and direct. It provided some basic information about wolves and I think the lack of detailed information caused my students to ask many questions. They enjoyed the read aloud, and many of them borrowed the book during independent reading time to revisit the pictures. About half my class could actually read most of the words in this book, too, which is rare for my read-aloud books, so they enjoyed that. ( )
