This story has parallels with the Henderson's Boys series by Robert Muchamore. It is the summer of 1941. Two teenagers, Otto and Leni, have evaded Hitler's Nazi followers, and feel lucky to have escaped to the safety of England. Both of them have skills that the British Secret Service deem useful for a secret mission. It will take them back into the heart of Nazi Germany and put them both in peril. However, they both feel obliged to help England's war efforts and agree to undertake this mission even though they have very little idea of what it will entail. Time is of the essence and they undergo a strict but brief training period before they are parachuted into Germany. The mission is to kidnap a young girl from the convent she has been kept hidden away in for many years. They know very little about the girl except that she must not be left in Hitler's hands.
It becomes a race against time with the pace of the story accelerating when their deed is uncovered sooner than expected and they go on the run with the Nazis in close pursuit.
The story moves along at a good pace and with plenty of adventure. It is not a complex one and the writing is not overly descriptive, although there are some scenes that describe violence and the death of characters. The book would be enjoyed by readers 11-14 who enjoy adventure stories that offer a sense of excitement and danger. ( )
