Title: Avenged (Pacific Coast Justice Series #3)
Author: Janice Cantore
Story Length: 378
Year: 2013
Publisher: Tyndale
This is another great, action-packed police suspense novel from Janice Cantore’s Pacific Coast Justice Series! I would recommend that before reading this book, which is the third in the series, that book one, Accused and book two, Abducted be read first. There are continuing storylines and characters that appear in all three books. So to understand certain references, readers should read the books in order. This story is set again in the fictional city of Las Playas, California.
Carly Edwards is back on beat patrol, but loses her partner, Joe, when he is injured. She begins to wonder if she still wants to be a beat cop or if she should take her career in a different direction. She is offered a job with a federal task force that would require lots of travel. The job sounds exciting to Carly, but it would take her away from her husband quite a lot. They already work odd hours as he is a policeman too and don’t see as much of each other as she would like. She also worries about his new job in the gang district and him getting hurt or worse. Two rival gangs are being manipulated to start a gang war, but who is pulling the strings? What advantage would a gang war be to this puppet master? A criminal from the past is looking as if he will get off without a murder conviction, spending a lot less time in jail due to a smear campaign in the press against Carly. There is much more going on in the story, but too little space to write!
I just loved seeing the spiritual growth of Carly throughout these three books. She goes from someone who isn’t even sure she believes in good, making fun of Christians to someone who prays with other people and leans on the Lord in good times and bad. I thought that the way the author wove the faith of different characters into the story was realistic and not preachy. I hope to read more of this author’s previous books and any books she might write in the future. Kudos on a great trilogy!!
My rating is 5 stars.

I give Avenged Pacific Coast Justice Series by Janice Cantore 5 stars because it is a plot that could be from the news headlines in any city. Carly is a policeman on the streets while her husband is a detective in the gang unit. Carly and her partner find three young gang members shot execution style with a rival gangs tags near the bodies. Carly and her husband Nick work to get to the bottom of these killings before a gang war starts. Carly and Nick aren't sure if it is the gangs or someone who wants a gang war to start so they must hurry and find the killers before things get out of hand all the while Carly is hounded by a obnoxious want to be reporter Ginny Masters and her boyfriend Dean Barton, who seems to have one mission to discredit Carly. Things are moving fast and Carly, Nick and the police need to work fast to stop further killings and themselves safe.

This book has everything a good mystery should. It has many different suspects with different motives, action, and suspense. Just when you think you know who was behind everything and why something happens and it changes what you thought you knew. The twists and turns get you guessing until the end and it is somewhat a surprise when you find out what is going on. The only thing this book doesn't have is graphic bloody scenes and bad language which makes it even more of a plus.

This book is well written and I enjoyed the read. Another thing I enjoyed was how the author brings faith and God in. Carly and Nick helps ex gang member Londy who is out of the gangs and living for God. They all go to church together and the church helps other kids who have been in trouble too. This plays into the plot and adds another element to the suspect list and motives.

Overall I think this book is one that if you like mystery, police stories and is a realistic story then you will like this book. This is the third book in the Pacific Coast Justice Series and even though I had not read any of the other books in the series it was easy to follow along. This can be read as a stand alone book but I am going to get the other two books because I liked this one so much.

Janice Cantore writes "suspense novels designed to keep readers engrossed and leave them inspired". I couldn't say it better. Her background in law enforcement makes her books come alive and you can understand and get a feel for what it is like for those who are putting their lives on the line for us. I liked the way Carly Edwards explains what she does to her husband, Nick, ". . . we are the good guys. We catch bad guys like . . . . and save lives of innocent people. . . . And even if there's never a thank-you or it's dangerous and scary, we'd do it again and again, because it's what we do."

This is a story filled with suspense and drama and trying to figure out what is going on in Las Playas with murder, bombings and gang fights. Carly and Nick Edwards work for the police force and you will know them well if you read this series in the order they were written (this is book 3). Something isn't adding up and someone wants Carly's name smeared and to discredit her as a good police officer. Both Carly and Nick must rely on their faith and trust in God throughout this story. Another exciting and action packed story by Janice Cantore.

I highly recommend you read these books in the order they were written, so you can understand and know the characters and their background. But you could read this as a stand alone and still enjoy it very much! ( )
