I adored the illustrations! As I was reading it though I was a little confused at how it related to science. Then in the end when it tied in transoceanic migration I understood! It also featured mapping and recording the locations of the bath tub animals found which is apart of the scientific theory. I enjoyed finding out that it was based off of a true story. I had never known about the 1992 incident. ( )

Ducky was one of the most unique books I have read in a long time. I did not really know what to think about it when I was reading it. However, it is interesting and I ended up enjoying it. It is about the after math of a crate filled with bath tub toys that fell of a ship in Hong Kong, China and how the toys have been found on beaches and scientists are using the toys to learn about currents, winds, and tides. However, the audience does not know this information until the end of the book when they read the author’s note. The actual book is the story of a bathtub toy duck and how he felt stranded in the ocean and his experience. Eve Bunting takes the audience through when the duck first came out of the crate to when the duck washed up on shore. The illustrations also support the book very well. The bright colors make the story exciting and keep the attention of the audience. ( )

I thought this book was a journey for kids. There is good detail within the story. What I liked most about the story was that the lost duckling finally got a home. The ending was great because he got to go home with the boy and be a bathtime duck. ( )

There were parts of the book Ducky that I liked and did not like. Overall, the main message of this book is that patience is key, and in time you will receive what you have been looking for. The part of the book that I enjoyed was the descriptions of the setting. For example, “when the ocean is blue with white ruffles.” I had an easy time visualizing the ocean and the vast, open, blue spaces the ducks were swimming in. However, I felt the story was a little to depressing. In other words, the storyline made me feel sad for most of the book, and I do not think children would want to read sad books. Even though the writing was exceptional, I did not like the plot of the story. ( )

This book was very cute. It is actually based on real events. In Hong Kong, China a lot of bathtub toys were being sent over to the US. A storm hit and all of the toys were washed overboard. Many of the bathtub toys have been found floating around the ocean and people are recording the findings. A boy finds "Ducky" and lets his teacher record the finding and then the little boy takes his Ducky to his house where he will always float in his bathtub. ( )
