The writing is brash and profane. The main character is two dimensional - a tough hardass aspiring to be a good mom, but otherwise shallow, unlikeable and 100% unrealistic. Some of the scenes I found wholly distasteful and gratuitous The storyline shoots by so quickly you don’t have much time to remember each victim. Also, I’m not a fan when the perpetrator is revealed early on. The conspiracy plot continues for the last 1/4 of the book and by this I was weary and wanting it to be over. Really nothing much good I can come up with...well, the plot itself was okay. That’s the only reason I gave it 1.5 stars. I haven’t been this disappointed in a book for a very long time. Corktown is the first novel in the Abby Kane series written by Ty Hutchinson. Abby Kane is an FBI agent who is called in to find who is responsible for a string of murders taking place in Detroit. While trying to find the killer, she realizes that she is not given all the information she needs to solve this case. While trying to do her job, she must also juggle motherhood. I don't want to give too much info away...you gotta read the book to find out more. I guaranteed you will enjoy it. Ty is the author of the Darby Stansfield series. If you loved those books, you will love this one. Corktown was a great read! It kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I went to work sleepy for many days, because I stayed up late reading this book! P.S., if you are a fan, you will recognized some of the story line immediately. Some of the details are taken from one of his books! More like 3.5 Stars. An okay thriller. I enjoyed it pretty much. What I liked: I liked Abby's character. She's basically no nonsense and wants to get the job done. She's made a bit more interesting by her background and home situation. I enjoyed the idea and the development of the corruption involved in a major U. S. city. Ms. Hutchinson showed how once corruption starts, it's extremely hard to choke it off. Overall, a pretty good novel. Good enough that I'll check into the next in the series to see where it goes. What I didn't like: I didn't quite understand why Abby was considered such a "hot shot" FBI agent just based on her previous work experience in Japan. There wasn't enough background provided as to why she was supposed to be so good. I would have liked more back story on her. Maybe that's coming in future books, I hope. I like a good thriller and this was one that kept my interest buy didn't overwhelm me. I could put it down when I wanted and pick right back up. I got Corktown on sale for $.99 and that's a great buy. Currently it's $2.99 on Kindle. The paperback is definitely not a good buy at $12.59. A serial killer is at work in Detroit and FBI agent Abby Kane has been sent to investigate. The murders have the same MO of an earlier killer, perhaps too similar, but the supposed perpetrator of those earlier crimes is still in jail. As Abby and her partners move further in their investigation, they keep encountering road blocks from the police and even from the mayor's office. Still she is determined to to solve the crimes no matter what obstacles are thrown in their way. Despite warnings that these murders and a possible earlier cover-up go deeper than they could imagine, she refuses to quit even when the killer puts her and her team in their cross-hairs. If one could call a novel about a very vicious serial killer and a corrupt city administration a whole lot of fun, Corktown would be it. Abby is an extremely likeable protagonist. What she lacks in height, she makes up for in toughness; she's the very definition of feisty. Although we, the reader, learn fairly early on who the killer is, the story moves along at a break-neck clip as Abby rushes to catch up with us. The short chapters add to the fast pacing, making this one hard read to put down. it's the kind of novel you should set an afternoon aside for without any distractions because, guaranteed, you are not going to want to stop reading for any reason short of zombie apocalypse. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Very well written with a fast paced plot and plenty of twists and turns.
Nice short snappy chapters that keep the interest level high and encourage the ‘just one more’ feeling when reading.
Difficult to put down - well worth 5 stars ( )
