Teen fiction; high school drama. Now you can relive the pain of highschool all over again! But seriously, a solid cast of "misfits" and a well-told story of revenge, friendship, and mean girls (and guy). Tackles some familiar themes (bullying, being gay/coming out) and includes some poetry, but thankfully isn't exclusively written in bad poetry, like some other teen fic I can think of (and Celia's poetry is fairly good, actually). I thought the Sweet Revenge of Celia the Door would be a nice fluffy book for me to read in between Serious books. But it is a lot more than it appears on the surface. Celia is one of the most endearing characters I have had the pleasure of meeting, and I really rooted for her, and her new friend Drake as well. This is a great book for teenagers especially, as it is so honest about what it is like to be a teenager. I wish I had this book when I was in high school. I'll love Celia forever. Last year, the mean girls picked on Celia, but this year she has decided to be Dark. Celia the Dark doesn't let anyone push her around, and she's determined to come up with a brilliant, poetic plan for revenge on the girls who bullied her. Of course, dealing with bullying and social ostracism isn't as simple as all that, and when you throw in complications like parents going through a separation that might end in divorce, and a new friend who is just coming out of the closet -- well, it all adds up to quite a year for Celia. Will her Dark outlook see her through? Going in, I expected this book to dish out the teenage angst, and it does -- but what I didn't expect was that it would also be sweet and sometimes funny. Finneyfrock creates great, pitch-perfect teenage characters, but she's also able to pull out a bit of the ridiculous nature of high school (think Ferris Bueller's Day Off, for comparison). Enjoyable all the way through; this is an author I'll be sure to watch! sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Fourteen-year-old Celia, hurt by her parents' separation, the loss of her only friend, and a classmate's cruelty, has only her poetry for solace until newcomer Drake Berlin befriends her, comes out to her, and seeks her help in connecting with the boy he left behind. I thought it was awesome the way even though Celia wore these shields, she was really very vulnerable and confused. She didn't want to face up to the fact that her parents were divorcing. She didn't want to face the fact that deep down she really did care what people thought about her. Oh yeah and did I mention this book has MEAN GIRLS!! I love mean girls... well not really, but I love it when books have them in there.
I adored all the poems in the book. I feel like modern poetry is not something that many teens are exposed to and also that when you read published poems they either seem unattainable or silly. Celia shows us that anyone can write a poem and it can be beautiful. But not just poems, I think it shows people to look for that creative outlet for their feelings and how that can be therapeutic.
The only thing I didn't love was the big secret from middle school that Celia was keeping. I thought it was going to be something really HUGE, but it wasn't. But I was ok with that. It was the journey to getting to that secret that I loved.
Overall: I highly recommend. If you like unique characters like Ruby from The Boyfriend List, you'll love Celia!! It's an awesome book about bullying, dealing with life, and above all friendship.
